Description

Up for sale is a brand new 1:72 scale Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A HORNET A21-23 “WORIMI HORNET” (HA3554) by Hobbymaster.

This distinctive Hornet is painted with an Indigenous motif and flew its last sortie from RAAF Base Williamtown on December 10 2020.

The aircraft, with the tail number A21-023, was in RAAF service for more than 30 years and clocked up 5663.1 flying hours.

It was given the name Worimi jet to honour the traditional owners of the land where RAAF Base Williamtown is located.

The aircraft’s artwork, added to the aircraft more than five years ago, was designed by Australian studio Balarinji and depicts Kilyarr Kilyarr, the wedge-tailed eagle.

The aircraft also features the pilot markings of the late Warrant Officer Len Waters, Air Force’s first known Indigenous fighter pilot. His P-40 was also available in the Hobbymaster range.

The F/A-18A/B Hornets are considered to be of heritage value and several have been donated to key locations and museums.

Aircraft A21-023 is now placed on display at the Fighter World Aviation Heritage Centre at RAAF Base Williamtown.

This model air-plane is made from die-cast metal and plastic and include extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Century Wings, Calibre Wings and Forces of Valor.
