Up for sale is a brand new 1/72 RUSSIAN AIR FORCE SUKHOI SU-30 BLUE 77 “KALININGRAD” (HA9502) by Hobbymaster.
The Sukhoi Su-30, initially named Su-27PU, is a two-seat multi-role fighter that evolved from the Su-27UB trainer version. The Su-30 was given new avionics and weapons for ground attack abilities. The aircraft began production in 1992 and in 1996 was renamed Su-30, NATO name is Flanker. The Su-30 has several variants, India has the MKI, Algeria has the MKA and Malaysia the MKM and Russia the SM. These 4 variants all have thrust vectoring and canards for added stability to compensate for the nose-heavy radars. There are several other Su-30 variants without canards.
Russia’s MAKS is an International aviation and space show designed to showcase Russian aviation and generate sales of their products. The event is a biennial and held during odd number years and is located at the Zhukovsky International Airport. In 2019 MAKS 2019 took place and one aircraft that displayed was Su-30SM RF-81881 Blue 77 that bore the name “Kaliningrad”. In 1945 WWII battle between Germany and the Soviets took place at Königsberg with the Germans surrendering. In 1946 Königsberg became Kaliningrad in honour of Soviet leader Mikhail Kalinin.
This model aircraft is made from die-cast metal and include extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Corgi, Gemini Jets, JC Wings, Witty Wings, Century Wings, NG Models and Aviation72.
