Description

Up for sale is a brand new 1/200 Luftwaffe – German Air Force Lockheed F-104G Starfighter (553872) by Herpa

The F-104 was chosen under what was called the “Deal of the Century,” by several NATO air forces to replace their old first-generation jets. Most of these aircraft went to the Luftwaffe and Marineflieger.  At its peak in the mid-1970s, the Luftwaffe and Marineflieger operated 11 F-104 wings. The variant delivered to the Germans was designed F-104G (with G for Germany) and it was not not the simple day fighter but an all-weather, ground attack version which was 2,000 pounds heavier than the original F-104 with the same engine. For most missions, it needed to carry four external fuel tanks, adding to the weight. It was a controversial choice and was considered a very dangerous aircraft, killing a significant number of it’s pilots. This model is painted to commemorate the 25th anniversary of JaboG 34 flying the Starfighter.

This model air-plane is made from die-cast metal and includes extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Gemini Jets, Phoenix Models, JC Wings and Aviation200.
