Description

Up for sale is an as new 1/72 Royal Navy English Electric Canberra TT.18 WH887 (AA34707) by Corgi.

The Royal Navy’s Fleet Air Arm flying target facilities unit was originally known as No. 776 Fleet Requirements Unit (FRU) and was based at Hurn, Bournemouh, in the late 1960s. Operated by Airwork Services Ltd, the unit moved to Yeovilton in 1972 and changed its name to the Fleet Requirements and Air Direction Training Unit (FRADTU). By the middle of 1974, the unit had changed its name again, to the Fleet Requirements and Air Direction Unit (FRADU), and was operating a mixture of Canberra variants, which included T.4s, TT.18s and T.22s, with which it was equipped for the following decade. This aircraft was one of several B.2 bombers that were converted by English Electric to TT.18 standard by 1971 (the TT stood for target tug). Upon retirement the aircraft went through several owners with it eventually being scrapped. The nose section was saved and restored to a high standard and is on display at Sywell Aviation Museum.

This model aircraft is made from die-cast metal and includes extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Hobby Master, Gemini Jets, JC Wings, Witty Wings, Century Wings, NG Models and Aviation72.

Includes display stand.
